The Cosmograph Daytona is one of the most iconic Rolex sportswatch and it is particularly collectable in the Paul Newman configuration. The Paul Newman dial – also called exotic dial by some collectors - was originally destined for the American market, which explains the inscription Daytona on nearly all examples with pump pushers and on every available reference of the time. It must be pointed out that his dial is considered by Rolex as a regular production dial and does not have any official ... more

The concept of a vintage toolwatch made of solid gold is a quite common concept today, but back in the 1960's only a twisted mind could imagine to produce a full gold version of the rugged 200m waterproof Submariner ! Here's the complete story: rolex.watchprosite.com This message has been edited by DrStrong on 2010-06-08 02:22:48 ... more

I just received news that the (in)famous Bamford & Sons Rolex watches with PVD coating will be retailed in Singapore. The range includes the Milgauss and Yachtmaster, as pictured, but also extends to the Submariner and other sports models. The Bamford site allows customers to customise the colour scheme of the watch, so for instance a black PVD Submariner can be ordered with red lettering. That will set one back about 8500 pounds sterling. These watches are easily regarded as inordinately expens... more

There will be a new dial with a gem set 6 o'clock hour marker. A blinged mini rootbeer for your ol lady, the chocolate dial? The SS Submariner in the "supercase" with maxi dial/hands. For most of its life the Sea-Dweller never sold particularly well because it was too thick and too heavy for the ordinary consumer. And the Submariner could be bought for less and it looked nearly identical. In fact, on the secondary market the Sea-Dweller went for almost the same as the Submariner for the longest time. Then in 2008 Rolex replaced the Sea-Dweller with the colossal Sea-Dweller Deep Sea, sparking off a rabid but brief frenzy as folks fell over themselves to acquire the departed ... more

‘Rigorous preparation, single minded determination and superlative timing’ is the Rolex catch cry of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht race. The watch gods have been truly kind to this collector as my wife and I were invited by ‘The Hourglass’ and ‘Rolex Australia’ to be part of the start of the race. The race is always conducted on the 26th of December ‘Boxing Day’ with the yachts starting in Sydney Harbour and then the journey takes them down the Ta... more

I can't tell how and where I saw the name Rolex for the first time. I can just say that I thought about offering myself a Rolex quite regularly since 1988! I can be that precise because I kept the catalogues since that time. I have to be honest and say that I was a bit young in 1988 to buy myself such a watch, or nearly any watch, as I was 15! When I later went into capacity to materialize my passion for horology into a watch on my wrist, the Rolex name was at the same time for me a ... more

1950's Rolex ad for the Explorer (Credit: Jake's Rolex Watch Blog) Most people believe that the Explorer I was launched by Rolex for commemorating the Everest expedition and that this watch was with British explorer team consisting of Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay etc on 29th, May of 1953, achieving a great task of human being climbing. This story is definitely magic and attractive, but it still has a certain distance to the real fact. Rolex indeed had supported ... more
