I have post the question: Why go vintage? before

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : September 11th, 2014-07:28
but I have to rectify myself. It seems that I'm developing a strong affinity towards a 1655. So now I've got a problem. Where to find an original one for a not to silly price...(as I know nothing about vintage Rolex) Oh dear, oh dear vintage sucks ;-)...

Patience, hunt, and some homework.

The good news is that the 1655 is not too high in price, nowadays.... The bad news is that to find one in very good condition and original is not that easy... I spent several years before finding mine. Here it is.... A reference I adore! Best, Nicola...

nice!

Am I the only one that thinks this is a fake?!

 By: fumanku : September 15th, 2014-22:13
Hi guys- While the patina of this dial looks great, am I the only one here that is willing to call this dial out as a fake here? The signs are all there- wrong fonts, fake hands, weird lume etc... Not trying to be a debbie downer here, but am I the only o...

No I haven't

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : September 16th, 2014-11:30
That's why i said: vintage sucks. Meaning: it's a snake pit buying a true original one. I can imagine that even a specialist can be fooled. How many vintage watches are out there with complete (not faked) papers & history?

The thing is Arie....

.....if you take a long read through the pages of this Rolex forum, you will find some instances of fakes...yes for sure. But actually, the percentage of fakes is remarkably low. I think there is a reason for that, and it is because people who are passion...

+ I've ordered some well known Rolex books from Italy Actually have my eyes on a GMT 1675 next to the 1655 as they are not too far apart price wise and the GMT is old skool yellow gold with president bracelet (secret guilty pleasure). So the Explorer went...

Excellent...so you are not a "lost cause"

 By: Baron - Mr Red : September 17th, 2014-07:35
I am truly curious to see how you emerge once you have a really good vintage Rolex on your wrist...really curious.... ....and hopeful!!

oh I might well be

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : September 17th, 2014-08:16
a lost cause :-) Have to say I also like the thought: buy new and make it vintage. However I would never buy a new YG Rolex on presidential bracelet just because that is plain wrong. We will see how and if it will play out, still a bit concerned buying vi...
