Unexpected "newbie" Rolex question

 By: MTF : September 19th, 2014-02:15
Dear Rolex forumners, I've been collecting watches "for a while" but am a newbie when it comes to Rolex-speak. What is a "Bruiser" and what has it got to do with "The Batman"? One sounds like a gangster and the other is my dark knight. I assume they are n...

I look at it like this.....

.....the Rolex GMT is dominated by two colours black and blue. It is true that Batman used to wear a lycro skintight suit coloured with black and blue. Some would say that he wore his underpants on the outside of his trousers. Some would argue that this i...

Fancy meeting you here, MTF! Sorry, I don't have a punch line. (But someone could probably come up with something funny!) I do, though, have a picture of my latest Rolex acquisition. Coincidentally, it's a Bruiser! Best, CaliforniaJed ...

I had one of the first GMTIIC's in Los Angeles and let it go several years ago -- now I can't even recall why. And I have missed it. This one is going nowhere unless on my wrist! Best, CaliforniaJed

That brings up another question

I am happy for your "find" as it gives you such pleasure. ; ) Who gets to chose the nickname for each new model? There are so many Rolex collectors and websites. For Chopard, it was easy for me in the old days being a lone ranger to make up "stories" . :-...

It is a long story. Italians used to give some nicknames.

I don't know if they are the first, but for example, I prefer the Freccione to the 1655. These ref numbers are so cold! Best, Nicolas

MTF, we're going to have to talk.

I don't know any of the Chopard nicknames! (But don't tell anyone -- would be too embarrassing!) Best, CaliforniaJed

This has become my favourite Modern....

I only have a vintage Rolex from my late dad. Whenever I want to get a modern Rolex, it will be the Bruiser! :) Thanks for sharing these lovely pics. Cheers Robin
