Is there one watch that you miss ...

 By: AndrewD : May 20th, 2010-01:50
Is there one watch that you miss more than any other when you haven't worn it for a while? A watch that keeps drawing you back? The fabled 'vampire watch'? Andrew

Always missing...

It is funny, I always miss the cheapest and simpliest watch I own: it is a Blancpain Aqua Lung with a brushed steel bracelt. I admire the dial of this watch, its simplicity and the absolutely right size for me. I have a small collection of "marine inspire...

I miss my YG Ulysse Nardin Hourstriker - That was a really fun and great watch - The color combo was YG with black dial - not really my total taste - which is why it was sold - it was the older style 39-40mm case. I loved that it had its striking mechanis...

Looking back is too cruel

 By: amanico : May 20th, 2010-07:23
If I really have to look back, I would say only one: The JLC Reverso platinum Nr 2: I sold it to be able to fund some other heavy watches, but I deeply regret having sold it. This watch has a lot of charm, an undisputable beauty, and a marvellous class. I...

Wow, Nicolas, I had no idea that one had gone. Your story actually is a bit inspiring to know that EVEN YOU have had to make these difficult choices and have made at least one that you regret. Then I can forgive myself a little the mistakes I have made an...

Hey, Respo, my sillyness is not an excuse...

It was time for me to take a decision, and I don't regret to have been able to get what I got... BUT, now, I'm seriously re considering getting this Reverso, to make a great Duo with my 70eme. Now, it 's time for some serious hunt... Best, Nicolas PS: Don...

No worries, my friend

The one you speak of will remain with me. Wearing it today, in fact, on a new rubber strap that is better for the warm weather today and during the summer. I see myself growing old with the TPP. Warm regards, respo

for me that is my AP Safari

 By: Rupert S : May 20th, 2010-08:31
every time I strap it on I like it more and am asking myself why I actually wear any of my other watches ...well I do like the other ones too - the Safari just seems to be the one I don't have to feel like wearing that day - it just always works cheers Ru...

"It just always works" ...

 By: AndrewD : May 20th, 2010-13:36
Thanks Rupert. Nice Safari. Your comment caught my eye and I wonder how important this attribute is to our love and admiration for a particular piece. In so many watches we have to put up with little idiosyncrasies, or tolerate return trips to the service...

Andrew, I agree that there is a lot of luck involved...

...I have bought my fair share of watches that I could have sworn I could wear every day and than over time the glimmer was kind of off and I ended up selling them - there are very few that I do regret selling...so I consider myself lucky I know this has ...

That would be me

But I'm also not a high roller. I have sold a lot of watches, but only to fund ones that gave me more pleasure, and none that were irreplaceable, and none were anywhere near the high-dollar watches mentioned by a few of the others. It's one of the things ...

Same, Snak.

...the ownership's the enjoyable bit. Selling is dull.

For better or worse...

Not a single watch which has ever gone into the watchbox here has been sold - yet!! So it is that Oris, Tag, Glycine and Locman share space with......... well, with other watches. On the one hand it provides a living chronology of the hobby, and a catalog...

Tried my part in showering eloquence like how you do but obviously coming up short. Just loving your choice of words which is so appropriate of what a REAL collection is. "Living chronology". How many of us around here can have one of those? From that wat...

Very generous of you Rob...

I haven't sold many...

.. but I must be the rare one here... Thankfully the ones I've sold, I haven't missed any of them... well, not so badly because I have ones I treasure even more to replace them. I consider myself fortunate. For example: I sold a 1815 to fund a Langematik,...

you and Jay Leno - he's kept every car

 By: cazalea : May 21st, 2010-12:55
alas I have sold a hundred cars and kept a hundred watches. Even so I am sure I have sold about another hundred watches anyway. A few brief regrets, but not any I remember vividly. Mike

That's a good sign cen!

 By: sidneyc : May 22nd, 2010-04:45
It means: 1) You have enough fund for every new acquisition without needing to sell down 2) You don't regret any of your purchases It is very rare indeed, in a good way!

Great classics... [nt]

Remember, it doesn't just have to be a watch you have sold...

 By: AndrewD : May 21st, 2010-18:23
There may be a watch in your current collection that seems to end up on your wrist more than any other. I am also interested to hear why you think that occurs. Great responses so far. Thanks! Andrew

There is obviously much pain amongst our Purist brethren!
