Pardon the ignorance but after doing some google searches I am still unable to resolve this issue. The other day I wound up a clear backed watch that has been stopped. After couple turns of the crown the wheel began to oscilate and the watch began to run....

I don't think this is an answerable question, or certainly it would be one with many different competing answers and points of view, mostly uninformed. I think the practical/aesthetic limitations for movement size play a much more critical role as far as ...
