Rolex: I spoke with a friend at Rolex yesterday and

he tells me the change to 904L should have been around 1988. The entire watch is now suppose to be 904L, this includes the bracelet. But, I spoke with him about my findings and he agrees there was a good period of lead-in where 316 was still being used. My tests back this up. I will soon be testing

Rolex: Bracelet is still 316, Only the case is 904

904 nickel content poses a problem for those who have skin sensitivity so only the parts that are not touching the skin were made in 904. I've done analysis on two newer models and both have 316 for the bracelet.

Rolex: This pic brings out the finish much better

Sometimes the lighting has an effect on steel and it's finish. Your earlier pics had me really looking at the crown and finish luster. This pic has less subdued lighting and I see nothing wrong with the watch. A better look at the bracelet markings would tell the rest from the outside. Do make sure

Rolex: I beg to differ It's 316 and 904

Only the case is 904L, the bracelet is still 316. I should have made that clear as to what I was refering to in my post. The bracelet looked a bit like 304 and a lot of fakes are made in 304 from Asia. It doesn't make good since to me since 304 tends to be harder in machining. Thanks Scott

Rolex: Not only would I open her up

I would double check on the crown guard shape, the band finishing and it really looks more like 304 from your pics. S/N will tell much, engravings between lugs will tell much and check the steel to see if it's 316 or not. Do the simple checks like this and you'll feel comfortable come trade time. Si

Officine Panerai: 233 hands down

As others have said, manual wind is the collector's choice as value is far better in the future. Plus, the movement aesthetics compliment the watch well. I'd take either if the deal was right! Not big on date wheels for Panerai though. Maybe if it were more rugged I'd like it. Time only is a basic s

Rolex: Beautiful but not PN

Maybe I missed something? This dial is the standard Cosmograph version. PN dials are with outer track, etc. Nevertheless, this piece is a winner!!! Thanks Scott

Rolex: I'd always try for bracelet first

but the dark leather strap enhances the PN black dial with cream subs. If you can get a Newman dial Daytona with the bracelet, you can detach and store it if you want and throw on a leather strap as you please. That gives you the best of both worlds and price is higher for one with original bracelet
