definitely white
Apr 13, 2014,15:24 PM
Because the dial comes out much better, especially the moon phase, and white is more classy, I just purchased a Daytona 116515, some prefer the chocolate dial, but it's very dark and has almost no contrast, so I chose the ivory dial, and it's way better, for me it's the same thing with your future Patek.

Black vs. White
By: nycbrose : April 11th, 2014-11:31
After a year of working with my AD, I've finally been given the opportunity to be first on the list for one of these. The catch is that I probably won't be able to see both side by side when any one of these pieces comes in. Hence, I wanted to get some th...
Congrats on this opportunity

The 5204 is fabulous, and corrects the major drawback of the 5004, this time with nearly perfect proportions on the wrist. I would refine the dial question a bit further. If the choice is between the current white dial (with the lighter gray hands and mar...
Very tough call
By: el1125 : April 11th, 2014-13:21
On this reference, I think I'd go black. However they both should really be seen in the flesh if it all possible. I own both 5970s in P (black) and G (white) and I love both equally.
Thanks

Do you find yourself going to black or white in different situations?
I believe
By: el1125 : April 12th, 2014-07:28
White is the more formal choice of the two. Also will be easier to read. Black is sportier/younger looking. Depends on your use for owning the piece. At the end of the day I don't think you can go wrong with either. The watch is a masterpiece. With the ne...

... black is more powerful, subtle, create an amazing contrast with platinum cases, feels very noble, and unlike what some would say, all black dials are not the same, very interesting but you must like black dials. A lot of people get bored of them. But ...

When it comes to this watch, I'd get...

...the White! It's classic and looks better with the moonphase in my opinion. I think you should reserve the black dial for a sportier watch if you don't already have one :) Congrats and looking forward to seeing what you choose.
Nice problem to have....!
By: w220 : April 12th, 2014-04:39
Well, that's a nice problem to have! It would appear to me that the white dial is more legible, and the white dial is also more classic. Hence, if I was buying, I would go with the white dial. Having said that, I can see the black dial being more rare and...
White for me
By: diogo : April 12th, 2014-08:33
Well, maybe not exactly for me... but white with black indexes seem to present better the personality of the model.
Just a short reply for now ...
By: small-luxury-world : April 12th, 2014-09:23
Black, for me. But I am addicted to black dials, quite often ... :-) Oliver
I like both, black denotes a more technical look to me
By: whit : April 12th, 2014-10:51
whereas the white dial is easier. That said, and this may seem petty but, I look at my watch a lot during the course of a day and when lint or dust gets on the crystal, it seems to be more obvious with a black dial ... and that annoys me, where the white ...
I would go Black
By: Myopiccoog : April 12th, 2014-15:16
Just clean and good contrasts between the plat medal and the black dial
White or black cannot go wrong
By: Iceman : April 12th, 2014-17:50
I prefer white as its much easier to read and can swap strap in many color to transform the watch. Also feel all classic pateks should hv white or cream dials. Anyways. Congrates on a future icon. I am still waiting for mine after 6 months waiting. ...
I have to agree
By: Mostel : April 12th, 2014-19:22
this watch does justice to Patek's past classics-- righting the wrongs of the 5270. I love this watch, and would also very likely go with white--mainly because the moon pops more, and it's so central to the watch's identity. On a side note, I feel it is l...
Black all the way
By: alphabeta81 : April 12th, 2014-19:06
I like the hands much better and the splash of blue for the starry sky on the white dial to me doesnt look good on that model - the black fixes this and flows together better. And it's much more versatile.
Some help maybe?
By: Conkers : April 12th, 2014-19:55
Maybe this will help you decide!! I agree with El, the black is more contemporary and modern feeling to my mind, it feels a little bit more sporty. I wear my 5270 original dial on formal occasions. Now if the 5204 came in blue.........
definitely white

The new white
By: nycbrose : April 14th, 2014-21:30
Just did some more research on the new white dial since not many pictures on Google show the actual color. Finally found it on this forum: I have to say, I am slightly disappointed that it really does look washed out...
Great shots!
By: Conkers : April 15th, 2014-16:58
With this model, I think you really cannot go wrong with either dial! Both beautiful!
How does it wear?
By: nycbrose : May 5th, 2014-20:37
Iceman - how are finding wearability? Does it wear big / thick or is it comfortable?
Both great watches.
By: jon_jon : April 21st, 2014-21:11
Black and white are both great choices. I recently had a chance to try on the white dial 5204 at an AD. It is about 2mm thicker than the 5270G, but I could noticeably feel the thickness on my wrist with the 5204P. Otherwise it is a beautiful watch. I have...
Still waiting...

I think I will ultimately go with the white... but what if the black one comes in first!!!
