 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 2nd, 2014-05:52
This is a watch that has haunted me for a long time. Even now, having taken the decision to buy it, I am still filled with worry and concern and fear. Why? I am not sure. Is it because the insert can crumble into a thousand pieces if I sneeze? Maybe. Who ...

Achoo

Welcome to the Rolex 6542 club.

 By: Bill : August 4th, 2014-07:17
Great buy Joe. Stop worrying about the bakelite. You always hear ho fragile it is but I have not seen many post showing the bakelite broken. For me I was spooked also in the beginning so I bought a spare set. Hard to find them so that can be an adventure ...

You took a great picture

 By: Bill : August 4th, 2014-07:23
Hard angle for me to reproduce. A+

thanks Bill......

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 4th, 2014-08:01
I hear you......easier said than done. I don't want to be the first guy here to post..."Look at my shattered bakelite! I only sneezed once." I can see the post!!

my watchprosite fav. picture so far.

 By: gensiulia : August 5th, 2014-14:54
often said, yes. too cool. c

Many thanks.

 By: Bill : August 6th, 2014-07:43
I need Nico to give the full glamor pictures. Best Bill

Very nice

By: Le Monde Edmond : August 6th, 2014-09:05
Congratulations on this Iconic piece. Yes the 6542 has 'this special something'. For me its a charming watch and I still am hunting for a specimen like yours. Black glossy gilt dial with a a beautiful bakelite bezel. It is a watch that has more charm than...

Edmond....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 6th, 2014-09:08
LoL...... Thanks for your comments. Yes, it is a watch that certainly has something about it...... But you are quite right...its not a SD!!

Next time you come around, let me know and bring yours, you...

 By: amanico : August 6th, 2014-09:13
Will see if doesn't have the success it deserves, after a dedicated photo session... ;) Best, my friend. Nicolas

I'd love to see yours, Edmond, mine and Bill's on a side-by-side....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 6th, 2014-10:13
.....of course, my Sea-Dwellers wouldn't attend....they are quite picky with the company they keep.... LoL

No chance

By: Le Monde Edmond : August 7th, 2014-14:41
My 6542 would not want to seen with the 'clunky, heavy and just weird looking' SD - don't worry. GMT Master 6542 are in a league of their own. Not even a 6200 is wished for at this party. We (6542) accept nothing but other bakelite bezels, ofcourse uncrac...

Well.... not inviting the 6200......now I know you have lost touch!

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 8th, 2014-03:14
And to paraphrase that great saying.... "If you can keep your head when all those around you are losing theirs, its quite possible that you haven't quite grasped the situation." GMTs are cool. They are colourful. They are the Sugar Ray Leonards..... The S...

Joe- one of favorite poems indeed. Yes I have lost touch- my mother thinks so anyway. And she is mostly right. In terms of your boxing analogy I have to take issue with that. Muhammed Ali is perhaps my favorite athelete of all time. Dance like a butterfly...

i don't think so....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 8th, 2014-07:23
.....not under any stretch of the imagination...can a GMT represent the Muhammad Ali of the Rolex range!!! Not even close. Like you, I think Ali represents the "Greatest", and to be in that category, we need to be in Rolex dive watches. The GMT has finess...

I knew

By: Le Monde Edmond : August 8th, 2014-07:41
you would take issue with that. Hahahaha. You right, the bakelite is too fragile perhaps. I like the Sugar Ray Leonard analogy too. He was a fantastic boxer. Certainly a compliment in my books.

massive compliment....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 8th, 2014-07:50
.....i can't think of a more skilful/artful boxer than SRL

Big congrates Joe

 By: Iceman : August 8th, 2014-08:14

As i said before

 By: Iceman : August 8th, 2014-08:27
All of my vintage watches came about by chance. I never really Plan or Hunt them vigorously. And i like it this way. I hope that day comes when i meet a lovely 6542. When it happens, you will the the first one i contact. :-))) Iceman

Thanks Iceman....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 8th, 2014-08:19
