I think I am going to surrender......

Sep 09, 2010,20:43 PM

Hi folks ,

I never wrote here on the Rolex forum before, for some reasons I never improved my basic knowledge on Rolex history and current/recent collections. But here what happened in the last few days.....

I am looking for the ultimate travelling summer companion and after pondering and pondering and listening to friends advices and most of all to my heart,I decided:I surrender to Rolex finally.

I am looking for a reliable, robust, solid, waterproof friend, the one that never lets you down, you can swim with, take a shower with, jump off  the cliff, move luggage...the one that you don t acknowledge for a little bit but you know its there for you should you need it.

Has to be new(no need for a fancy vintage ref,too delicate and precious maybe?).and needs to turn into a smart sidekick in case you put a fresh shirt and hit town after holiday activities...so it can well be a limited production(if it applies to Rolex)like green bezel Sub,or green glass Milgauss to add a little more Purist touch to it....

Here is my shortlist:1)Milgauss(maybe green, but love the white too)2)GMT II 3)Sub......but I am open to suggestions/opinions...

Just wanted to share my thoughts with you and maybe get  feedback.......Can t wait to hear your comments...

Yours,Mo

Hi, Mo Glad to have you here. As far as what you are describing, the GMT 2 Ceramic sounds like the perfect choice for you. Another option I would suggest could be the Daytona, particularly the white gold with the black and red dial. Absolutely stunning! T...

Mon ami, There is no rush. You are on the right track. The ultimate travel companion you can eat sleep, drag luguage with is a Rolex Submariner. Forget everything anyone has said about these watches and accept your destiny. You need to experience one of t...

I would first choose the GMT which can also be a superb travel watch, but which would fit the bill if you have to put a tuxedo for some special events ( Deeeelphine ). The other which comes to mind is the YachtMaster with the platinum dial and bezel. This...

Special events.....

I took my Submariner LV and SDDS for service in the beginning of the summer. However, I missed my every day sporting Rolex esso much that I wanted to buy a new one. So I bought Yacht Master. But then, visiting Tokyo I saw the ND Submariner, then from Lond...

Damn, Kari!

I still have 2 rolexes in Paris which I have to pick up soon. However, I must admit that it would have been much cheaper just to change the strategy and go for a nice vintage piece as you recommended during our last meeting. At the same time, if i would b...

Empty beer bottles is a serious option ...

 By: amanico : September 10th, 2010-00:44
And a very healthy one if you don't dringk them before. But I still think option B is something to think about. Let's see that next time we meet! Best, my friend. Nicolas

As you know Nico,

 By: dr.kol : September 10th, 2010-00:48
I don't drink beer. So again I would have two options: a. during dull nights collect the empty bottles from the streets. This would also mean some positive cash flows or b. collect the bottles after your consumption. I just wonder which alternative would ...

Let me think again about these 2 options... :) [nt]

He who dies with the most toys wins. Kari I am sure the St Peter is waiting for you at the gate with your name already on the guest list. I am sure they already have a table ready for you at the club. No rush here just avoid the guys with the pointy ears....

You're a riot, Bill. :))) [nt]

I agree with your analysis

 By: Bill : September 10th, 2010-00:30
The easy route is a new Rolex from the many choices available all good no way to lose there. The harder and more adventurous route is that of as you very well put it is a 5513 no date plexi with all its ugly and pointy bits. And risks. With all of the Mod...

LMAO, Bill... But so true!

 By: amanico : September 10th, 2010-00:33
And I have the feeling Kari already knows / fears that. Best, Nicolas

If I ever needed more confusion...

 By: moc : September 10th, 2010-00:40
this certainly didn t help.....WOW!Way to go sir,I must admit that a few times I was so taken by a group shot. The charm of the ever green rolex look repeated in a box is hard to beat. YM is very appealing,a sub is a classic, and a GMTII is a must have........

in closing - Saepius plantata arbor fructum profert exiguum.

The modern interpretation of course. Keep moving so as not to stagnate. The end result will be the happier one. Enough of my rambling for tonight. Ciao gents.

We are the damned ones wise man!

My first Rolex was an explorer II some years ago...... But my first real Rolex was a sub meters first, the warmth and the charm of it are captivating indeed.... I would suggest a no date sub, a great beater and a classic.... You can fairly easily find one...
