My very personal conception of the Rolex Summum.

Oct 18, 2011,06:20 AM

Nothing original, I fear, as you well know the two watches I'm speaking about...

But if I had to sum my Vintage Rolex Collection in only two pieces ( Thanks, God, I don't have to go into such a painful dilemma ), it would certainly be these two...

By far not the most expensive, nor the rarest ( even though they are not that easy to find ), but the most expressive, in my eyes.

The Tudor Big Crown is in this line, exactly...

As well as the Rolex 6542.

Born almost 60 years ago, both are THE legend, in their own family, the Submariner, and the GMT, even if the Tudor was not the first Submariner.

But each of them has its own character, sensual ( 6542 and 7924 ), strong ( 7924 ), and how sexy.

Yes, definitely, these 2 are the top of my Vintage Rolex.

Please, do share with us your own vision of the Vintage Rolex Summum!

Best,

Nicolas.

You're gone. There's no turning back for you now.

But why would you. I'll make the same decision you make and be gone like you. I got to act fast. These BC are going to move a speedy bullet. Best Tyler

I'm gone, I'm done, I know...

Next month, I will post my triplet: These 2 + the 6610 in the same picture. I can go a bit farer, though. But that is another story, and another topic... For the moment, I honeslty think that if I had to sum my Vintage Rolex Collection in only two watches...

For me it would be...

 By: Miranda : October 18th, 2011-07:13
the 6542 for sure, it is the epitome of what a tool watch is, the other has to be a Submariner I agree but...which one, I love the big crowns, but for me red sub 200m first, why? Whilst the non dates are the "purest" option, the date, made the Submariner ...

You mean this one?

 By: amanico : October 18th, 2011-07:23
Just a normal Red Sub, no 200 meters first, as it is a '72 one: But with a small trick, you can get both of the GMT and Sub world... Here it is: Best, Nicolas....

No you didn't! How can you!!!

 By: TdotBean : October 18th, 2011-08:12
You just franken your sub! That's forbidden by the god of rolex, isn't it )) The worst thing is it doesn't look bad Best Tyler

LOL u is a bad man!

 By: Miranda : October 18th, 2011-09:25

Devilish, isn't it? ;) [nt]

A very rare fish to catch Greetings my friend. Great pictures and beatuful watches. Saludos mi amigo. René

Having fun is always good, my friend.

 By: amanico : October 28th, 2011-11:27
Even if I feel a bit guilty to have dressed this Sub this way... Best, René. Nicolas.

Indeed my friend...

 By: renerod : October 28th, 2011-14:25
Besides, I think we have the right to play with our watches, don't you think so? I do it with my cheap omegas, angelus and seikos though Greetings. René

They are both very lovely.

 By: grigo : October 18th, 2011-10:53
Must have been a very difficult choice no? Best regards, George

Naaah. Getting both is my only solution.

 By: amanico : October 18th, 2011-11:03
The BC is a must, but what to say about the Pussy Galore??? I had to get both of them, even if it took me years to make this pair. Best, my friend. Nicolas;

A perfectly understandable approach.

 By: grigo : October 18th, 2011-11:07
An approach that I can only lend my support too. Best regards, George

One day, one day no doubt.

 By: grigo : October 18th, 2011-12:18
For the moment I am going to focus on getting my two DSA's. Best regards, George

superbe watches,

and beautiful picture, not easy to capture the beauty of these vintage dials and hands! Matt

Thanks, Matt. You know how much I love these 2...

 By: amanico : October 18th, 2011-11:41
Funnily, these 2 are under rated in their category... The 6542, being a GMT, is less sought than a Sub, and the Tudor is much less appreciated than the 6538 / 5510 / 6200, but not less interesting. Maybe it is also the reason why I love this pair so much!...

Bravo ! Two strong characters !

Here's my personal Everest. I have tried, but it was impossible for me to pick only one or two....

Nothing to throw, here...

 By: amanico : October 18th, 2011-12:35
A special feeling for the DRSD... This brown dial is to die for. Well, the PN is not bad, either. Two watches I miss in my collection. Less fan of the Comex... Go figure why, it never made me dream... Best, Jeff, and congrats for this " hat trick ". Nicol...

haunted by these GMT now

 By: Tudor7922 : October 18th, 2011-14:10
Lucky recent owner of a 7922 BC, I am haunted by your GMT 6542 since I've seen some pics....

Your half way to happyness, now. ;)

 By: amanico : October 18th, 2011-14:14
Can't agree more with you, Tudor 7922. Best, and thanks for your nice words. Nicolas.

Woa, that Submariner is unbelievable!

Mon ami, you'v truly outdone it! Merci! Stephen

These are just some modest automatic watches, Stephen. ;) [nt]

happy you mentioned the milgaus--have recently become obsessed with this model! J

I have to admit....

 By: playtime : October 20th, 2011-18:48
your love for crowns without crown guards has left an impression on me, to be sure...... I've become obsessed with the current Milgaus! I think part of the appeal of vintage watches is how the particular instance of a model has evolved over the years, how...

These Vintage watches are a journey into Time, Jason.

 By: amanico : October 20th, 2011-21:51
How were the watches we see today? What are their roots? What is the impact of the original watches on the modern iterations? Here lies the interest of these Vintage watches. Can you imagine these 2 are 53 years old??? They are so modern, still. Best, Nic...

This pair speak to me as well

 By: Ubik : October 25th, 2011-07:15
If I could go back in time with what I know now I might have been lucky enough to add them to my box. Luckily I can bask in the reflected glory of yours, my friend.

It is still time to find them, Eitan.

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2011-07:20
For the price of a Vintage Dayto or a DRDS, you can get this pair, and get in touch with the roots! Best, and thanks for your kind comments, Eitan. Nicolas.
