Rolex Big Crown - Tasty White Lollipops

Oct 27, 2011,12:16 PM

Don't shoot till you see the white of their hands.  LOL

The Rolex BC in the 6538 and 5510 in the 57 – 59 range enjoy these great big white lollipops seconds hand.  They are a very distinct look.  It was not a standard issue and as with Rolex no particular information other than the obvious visibility that the white seconds hand provides on a dive watch.  It was by no means a standard issue.

The other no crown guard 6536/1 and the 5508 have also enjoyed the white Lollipop seconds hand but it is substantially smaller, obviously, to fit a smaller case.

Below are a couple of pictures to enjoy.  Please feel free to ad yours and the give more details on the mystery of the white hands.

Enjoy

Bill

The 6610: Without forgetting the infamous Tudor 7924, even if the big Lollipop is golden, not white. And, to correct a bit what I said about the 6542, the white lollipop is small. like on your 6536. I'm a big fan, Bill! Well done, my friend! Best, ...

I think it fair to say the dates 57-59 are key

Rolex must have been trying out new materials or trying to distinguish materials using the white hands on various sports models. It seems the 1030 movement seems to be common as I think was in the 6610. Bill PS You have the eye of an eagle.

There are a lot of theories about the expression of the change of material...

The exclamation dot, the underline... Well, it is not clear at all. It seems that the " ! " had such a purpose, it is less sure that the underline had such a signification, and, to say all, I am not sure the white lollipop has such a meaning. As for an ex...

6610

do you think the 6610 gets enough credit? I think it is a hugely under-rated Rolex.

Agreed the 6610 is underrated. ...

Agreed the 6610 is underrated. It shares aspects of the no crown guard that give it a special place. A gilt chapter ring 6610 is a sight to behold. The challenge is the size. Which is really the only thing holding it back. It is the biggest of the explore...

My friend, the 6610 is a must have, a classic, a milestone, and its size....

Which is reasonable ( 36 mm case ) should not be a con if you consider it. Small, it is, but terrificly elegant and seducing. Give it a chance, you will adopt it. Best, Nicolas.

Let's do that!

Interesting subject.

Thanks for the education guys! History was never my favorite subject but these vintage pieces require an 'eagle eye" and detailed information to fully appreciate their beauty. F

You are absolutely correct. The cache of the white seconds hand give the watch just that little extra umfff that makes your smile just that little bit wider. Don't get me wrong a lollipop is a lollipop but when it is white well … fill in the blanks. Rare,...

Lollipop hand

 By: Bolito : December 13th, 2011-11:18
Hi,I have a chance to buy an original Lollipop hand for my 6538. But my 6538 has a service dial from the 60`with matching hands. Any issue in combining them? How much would you pay for the Lolli second hand?

Congrats on your 6538.  As...

Congrats on your 6538. As for the price the is a seller's market it could be a few hundred to many hundreds. You must be sure it is genuine as some sell replica hands but usually state "replacement" and cost less than 100. As for the appropriateness and p...

No problem, you can put a lollipop hand on your 6538, of course!
