Red Submariner - joining the vintage sub club....

May 28, 2012,13:14 PM

Hi all,

After a lot of years collecting vintage divers - mainly Blancpains, and even though I wear a 16600 as my regular daily beater, this is the first vintage Rolex for me - and beautiful 1680 Red Submariner! I'm very pleased with it - I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and its been on my wrist for it all!!!

I removed the bracelet when it arrived, and put on this lovely soft black leather NATO - very comfortable, and gives a very purposeful look.

Serviced a few years ago by Rolex London, its keeping surperb time!!

In fact, I love it so much, I could easily imagine a wee vintage GMT buddy sitting beside it!! I've a feeling these vintage rolex could be just as addictive as the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms I've been hooked by previously!!!

Cheers Tony

The bevels are still neat, and the patina of the indexes is like I love them... And yes, these Vintage Rolex are highly addictive... you'll see. All the best, my friend. Nicolas

Merci Nicolas...

Exactly - the patina is what really caught me with this one - hands and indexes matching in colour. and yes, the edges (and infact the whole case), it is clear its been a) looked after previously, and b) underwent good case maintenance / finishing when in...

You will have to show it to me, next time!

The fact that you have her strapped on a leather Nato shows you are fully under her spell. Great watch that will bring you great joy. Vintage.... what can I say... timeless. Enjoy the beast. Bill

Congrats !

We both appear to have been badly bitten by the "Vintage Bug" I mean passion! That is a beautiful 1680 red and the patina is fantastic, lovely and warm in appearance. I suspect that you and I may have entered a black hole, from which there is no escape!! ...

Cheers Tony...

Yes, this leather Nato is one of my favorite purchases this year - so soft and supple, I've started using it on a number of watches I wear - looks equally good on an old Heuer Bund 1550, milspec 1 fifty fathoms.... Hand made to order by a guy in Indonesia...

very nice Red Sub Tony!
