Rolex Baselworld 2014: 3 novelties.

Mar 26, 2014,04:49 AM

New GMT ( White Gold case ) :

Milgauss Green Glass, Blue dial.

New Sea Dweller:

Pictures published on the Rolex Website.

All 3 in 40 mm case, stainless steel for the Seadweller and the Milgauss, white gold only for the blue red GMT.

No special Dayto, except a jewelled version, as far as I know.

For sure we'll have in depth discussions on each of the models.

The moon? On a Cellini. Rose Gold.

Best,

Nicolas

Not sure about the blue green combo on the Milgauss.

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-04:58
The GMT is a winner, IMO, the sad thing is that the case is in white gold, hence quite expensive... To be seen in the flesh! Best, my friend. Nicolas

I think this will prove itself the star of the show for Rolex

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 26th, 2014-05:05
Yes, Rolex managed to successfully merge red and blue on the cerachrom to re-create a tribute to one of the most famous historic GMTs. At last, a really decent effort from Rolex at a tribute. And this is certainly a watch that many will adore. As Nicolas ...

Heart stopping

 By: Spellbound : March 26th, 2014-05:11
I better start saving now. I guess it'll be a few months before these hit the market so my target, SFr 1. multiplied by 31,400 for the dream beverage. Dean

Slightly more

 By: Spellbound : March 26th, 2014-16:30
The Pepsi is listed in Basel as CHF 36,500 which I assume includes the Swiss 8% VAT. Gotta save hard and fast for this one. Dean

seadweller case shape

 By: watchman9656 : March 26th, 2014-05:18
just noticed that the case of the Seadweller is thinner that the Sub one The subs were too square , so it reflects the vintage look

I LOVE this!!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : March 26th, 2014-05:59
This new GMT master is a winner! Love the red and blue bezel! White gold is ok but will need to save up for it though.:) Cheers robin

Star

By: Mark in Paris : March 26th, 2014-06:50
Yes it would certainly be the star Joe, for many of us. I saw there was a new Sea dweller too. This is a perfect Sub-like for me as there is no Cyclope loup. So, Am I very happy to see hte perfect Sub-like version again in the collection or would I pick t...

The Sea-Dweller fills a neat gap for Rolex....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 26th, 2014-07:03
. ....as the previous offering was essentially unwearable to anyone with even am average wrist. This new 40mm seems a lot more user-friendly. To be blunt, though, I will need to see this one on my wrist before i can tell how much i like it. I love Sea-Dwe...

Joe this one definitely my favorite and in my radar! T

Thanks for sharing my friend and up hope all well. This will make for a great pair with my WG Sub! Cheers,

WG Sub and WG GMT, I would love to see a side by side shot

One day... No, ASAP. ;) Best, Nicolas

It's beautiful...but

 By: daytonaman799 : March 29th, 2014-13:55
It's hard to pay $40k for a WG GMT. There are so many great watches you can get for less. A vintage 1675 is a fraction of the price and was the inspiration of this watch. You can buy historical models like a COMEX for the same price and get the history, i...

As ursula, very smart of Rolex

 By: ztirual : March 29th, 2014-14:41
The issue of this pespi dial in white gold is pure genius. People wanting the iconic pepsi will have to go deep in their pocket to get it. And I imagine it will be a very, very nice watch indeed. Even nicer in the metal. I guess it will be quite long, if ...

Or maybe they will issue it with this insert, in SS, but with a different dial?

 By: amanico : March 29th, 2014-14:43
That is what I see in my Crystal Ball... ;) Best, Nicolas

Thank you Nicolas, wow! you're everywhere;)....

 By: Sandgroper : March 26th, 2014-05:17
Is the new Milgauss dedicated to the OZ market? Blue and green, that's for opals;) don't like the combination that much. The new GMT white gold case on the other end is very pleasant. I think I like it. Cheers Francois from Down Under

Hey.... what's not to like on that one!!

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 26th, 2014-05:23
Honestly, I think all three are winners, but that GMT!!! Wow.

Ah! Mr Baron, as you're asking for it, here........

 By: Sandgroper : March 26th, 2014-06:28
it is;) The only, tiny little thing I don't like about it, is.......the width of the bracelet between the lugs. If it were, say, 1-2 mm wider it would reduce the "bulky" visual of the lugs and make it look more elegant, "a la" 16750 or 1675 for example. T...

Maybe...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 26th, 2014-06:33
....people say that about the Black/Blue, yet on the wrist it doesn't feel at all out of proportion to me. Oh well, I guess i am just going to need to try it on!

Well, I am waiting for some real pics, and better, to see these 3 ss cases in the real.

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-06:04
That is the only way to appreciate, or not, these modern Rolex. But I fear the new Milgauss will disappoint me. As I think that I will fall for the new GMT. If only it was in stainless steel!!! Best, my friend. Nicolas

+1 on falling for the GMT.. But not now .. Yet good to know, it'll be there.. ;)

 By: hs111 : March 26th, 2014-11:34
.. Would assume the WG makes it a bit more elusive, possibly.. .. guess, I have to get a bit, careful again, not to exhaust myself in the modern Rolex camp.. - But seeing it, never is a mistake, I suppose Hmmmm... Best, hs

Is Rolex discontinuing the DSSD?

 By: Epilogue : March 26th, 2014-05:35
thanks for the update!!!

Epilogue...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 26th, 2014-05:40
....No...I don't think there is any reason to think that it is being discontinued. I may be wrong, but it is still listed as an existing model.

The GMT is a winner! [nt]

 By: fernando : March 26th, 2014-06:03

On that we totally agree. I already see some who will try to get this blue red insert.

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-06:06
On their SS Blue Black or all black... ;) Best, Nicolas

You think?

 By: fernando : March 26th, 2014-06:14
You could be right but it would be somewhat of a Franken? Would fit the BLNR more with the blue 24 hr. hand. It shouldn't happen but I guess it's possible. Best fernando

We already saw some stainless Dayto with meteorite dials ( only for wg ).

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-06:15
Yes, Franken, but do the wearers care? Best, Nicolas.

Great report Nicolas!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : March 26th, 2014-06:04
Love the new GMT. This one is a big winner, even if just in white gold. cheers robin

Naah, my friend, just a quick post. But it is always good to have first impressions on

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-06:07
Novelties... And to come back to them, in a more in depth way... Best, Nicolas

I like the GMT and new sea dweller

 By: esddmd : March 26th, 2014-06:06
I've always been eyeing the Sea Dweller but due to the large size of the previous DSSD, I never considered buying one..now, the 40 mm SD will most likely be the next purchase..i had a feeling Rolex would come out with either a ceramic Pepsi or Coke GMT ba...

Yes, it seems that the Dayto is the big absent.

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-06:09
As for the SD, yes, I think it is a very smart offer from Rolex. Best, and thanks for looking. Nicolas

That is a good question. Some said that it was impossible.

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-06:32
I love the way Rolex answered them. Now, I have to go deeper in the discovery of this Watch and to figure out how they did. Best, Nicolas

Very nice additions to the collection! :)

By: blomman Mr Blue : March 26th, 2014-06:36
Looking forward to see more details about these... Best Blomman

So they managed to do it!

By: Mark in Paris : March 26th, 2014-06:54
Putting a 2 tone bezel on the GMT. That's a great pice of news and a very attractive one (even if the white gold price threshold will be harder to reach). The Cellini, on this picture, seems lovely, quite pure and elegant. an interesting offer. The Sea Dw...

Well, the two tone insert came last year, in black and blue.

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-07:33
As for the Cellini, it has to be seen in the flesh. I find the moon to be a bit too discrete for my taste, to say all... Best, Nicolas

Cellini

By: Mark in Paris : March 26th, 2014-07:46
The Cellini also exists in a Date and in a Time only versions: As for the Two tone matter, I didn't express my thoughts correctly, I meant two colors o.c., the black not being a problem together with another color, but being a real issue otherwise (at the...

Disappointing Year

 By: marcwagman : March 26th, 2014-07:10
I have to say that Rolex really failed to dazzle me with this years releases. They only released three Oyster models that normal Rolex lovers might buy. All three are slightly updated versions of older models (a new Cerachrome Bezel for the GMT, an update...

i think their strat. is to only move forward...why dilute such a beautiful heritage?

 By: Epilogue : March 26th, 2014-07:21
Rolex is being so innovative that there is no point issuing heritage models...

Well, it is a tough dilemma. When they do a re edition, everybody cries.

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-07:31
When they don't, it is the same outcome. Rolex is clearly not thinking about visiting the past, Tudir is here for that and Tudor does a superb job, I must say... But I agree that Cellini apart, ther is no ture novelty this year. Best, Nicolas

At a bare minimum

 By: marcwagman : March 26th, 2014-07:38
At the very least Rolex should have some surprises every year. Although I didn't like the Skydweller and would never buy it, but it was a surprise when it was released. This year I don't think there is anything I would ever buy and there is certainly noth...

Isn't the GMT paying direct tribute to the GMT history?

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 26th, 2014-09:15
As a general point, I understand your opinion. On the other hand, the pepsi dial GMT is what vintage lovers have been calling for from Rolex for a number of years...and this year Rolex deliver exactly that...a tribute to the vintage Pepsi GMT. Rolex is a ...

Nice to see the classic line with complications

By: COUNT DE MONET : March 26th, 2014-08:24
Daydates on a leather strap are not classic as they show their original purpose as a bracelet watch. Cellinis are more convincing. As someone mentioned before: looks like the DS has a less squared case again, which would be nice. Thanks for the pictures M...

haven't been this excited about Rolex..

 By: ocwatching : March 26th, 2014-09:39
since I started on this journey.. Love the new SD..too bad the GMT is in WG and I have a feeling the red/blue will probably never make it down to the SS..kinnda like the Smurf Sub.. actually shot an email to my AD about the new SD... looking forward to on...

The GMT is spectacular.....

 By: Andy : March 26th, 2014-10:16
and I'm actually glad it is on white gold only as it really does make it special for those that can get one. Big thumbs up to Rolex for this one :) Thanks for the information Nico, Andy.

+1

 By: Baron - Mr Red : March 26th, 2014-10:56

Do you have any live pics of these pieces....?

 By: Andy : March 28th, 2014-16:49
Especially the GMT and the SD :) Great year for Rolex again, Andy.

2014, what an interesting vintage!

 By: Anatol : March 26th, 2014-13:10
I really like the Pepsi GMT. The hunt is on for a ceramic inlay and a 24h hand to fit it to a steel GMT! The new Milgauss may become my summer watch should I tire of my 1680 yg with purple dial. Unfortunately, though, they messed up the new SD for me! The...

Well, the Pepsi GMT will break some hearts, for sure.

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-14:30
The new SD, well, I am not a client for this one, since my SD, the one in my heart is a certain DRSD MK II PP. So, I didn't pay that much attention to it. As for the new Milgauss, I have to see it in the flesh before any definitive judgement. But if I had...

I think the Cellini line

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : March 26th, 2014-14:29
is the most important thing Rolex has produced in a long time! It looks stylish and I think they will get a whole new customer base with this model. The new Cellini (the old ones being, what can I say, BLEH!) will be competing against all the dress watche...

You raise an important question: Do we buy a Fine Rolex?

 By: amanico : March 26th, 2014-14:33
Or do we buy a quality, nicely made tool? With the Cellini, I agree that Rolex takes the bet. But the Rolex clients, and the non Rolex clients? That is an interesting question, for sure! Best, and thanks for your feedback. Nicolas

well

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : March 27th, 2014-10:22
that is the question indeed. It is safe to say however that Rolex watches are more or less bulletproof. And everybody knows that. So if that characteristic comes in a dresswatch it might well be a winner. My only 'concern' is: how thick is the case and ho...

Really like the Cellinis, but...

 By: Bodo : March 31st, 2014-19:03
I hope they won't be too successful. Just like the recent Prince models, these new Cellinis have a wonderful combination of being high quality, rare, very carefully designed, and just a little bit quirky to keep them interesting over many years. And if th...

Am i the only one interested in the Milgauss?

 By: Echi : March 26th, 2014-20:57
I think it will look nicer when Nico gets his D-lux6 working on that blue dial :-) That "pepsi" should have a ss version regardless A plexi on that would be interesting as well. One thing i like to see is them removing those circular borders around the ho...

I agree, I was happy to see it was not too "Fluo"

I just hope the polished Ceramic will not be too shiny and visible.

My prefs.. GMT b/r .. Then SD.. Milgauss I' ll like to see .. Could still be nice ! ..

 By: hs111 : March 27th, 2014-05:41
So Rolex surprised many with the Pepsi/ GMT - whereby quite a number of people will go for that, I guess. ;). - As only WG, it may have the opposite effect to what one might think in the 1st place; - As a certain cliƩntele might get it exactly because WG,...

Thx Nicolas, lots of good news out there

 By: cisco : March 27th, 2014-14:15
The Cellini was for a long time something completely different to the rest of the offer. For the first time it is coherent with other models with a more refined/flat profile (remember old veriflat reference). The dials looks awesome on pictures, good job ...

Looking good all round

EH--kind of boring huh?

 By: Mostel : March 28th, 2014-15:04
The coke GMT--of course everyone wanted that--kind of irritating that Rolex chose to make it WG. NO ONE wanted that. But the can't wait crowd will shell out for it. Shrug--cynical and off-putting move by Rolex. We know it will be in SS whenever sales of W...

I am not sure they will put this insert on a SS GMT.

 By: amanico : March 28th, 2014-15:09
They try to stick to their original choices, as we could see... The Cellini, I agree with you it doesn't move me, by far... As for the Milgauss, I have to see it, I doubt it will move me, too... Best, and thanks for your feedback, my friend. Nicolas
