A lovely Travel Watch: Rolex 16550 in the North of France.

Oct 13, 2014,07:19 AM

I had the pleasure to spend the week end in Lille, with some watches. Among them, this gorgeous 16550.

The Cream dial makes it all. Subtle, warm, sweet, this is a watch which deserves much more interest.

Here are some pictures I took there.

Best,

Nicolas

......has a most special patina....one of the nicest I have ever seen in fact.

The condition is terrific on this one, yes.

And I am fascinated by the tonality of its dial. A Watch I don't often wear, but which provides me a lot of pleasure. Thanks for your comments, Joe. Nicolas

Mi piace Nico, bravo! ;) [nt]

Each time (rare, the last times at "La Portizza") I see one Explorer creamy dial I say to myself: that's cool! ...makes me want to touch it! Gives the impression of being "soft"!!! Best Nico! massi

Great on you

very nice rail specimen. My favorite Rolex of the last 30 years. Strangely, not popular (yet)

I am somehow happy to see that it is not so popular.

I am not found of popular watches, and much prefer outsiders... ;) All the best, my friend. Nicolas

Wonderful pictural report, Nicolas! :)

and at certain angles, the dial actually matches your sleeve button. not sure that was a coincidence :-) fantastic watch! btw, any reason why you'd also have the arctic white version when you already have this one? i wonder who has both other than you. of...

These are two different dials. The color, the rail writings, the bezel...

When you love the Explorer Line so much, then.... If not, not necessary to get both, indeed. Thanks, Echi. Nicolas

That's a very nice series with your 16550 !.. Pretty but still cool, that creamy dial !..

.. Really like the wristshots in front of these nice backdrops ! One Q : was the creamy dial like that in the beginning as a special dial- color, or has it also been uniformly ageing (?) - Apologies for this naive Q, but mostly the 16550s I'm seeing, are ...

Yes, Young Padawan. [nt]

I can imagine many other watches that would better suit your 1800. For example: Since your travelling-your many GMT's? Or your Polaris 65 which is just back. Would be more harmonious in my opinion. Still enjoyed your pictures! Best Edmond

Chronologically speaking, you are more than right.

The Polaris 65 or the Rolex 6542 are two great watches to travel with the P 1800. A Tudor Big Crown, too! Best, Nicolas.
