It is a watch that brings up mixed feelings...
i used to love this one a lot as i am a white dial kind of guy.
but then there have been days when i find it very boring... when the polar white is unable to polarize 
then you strap it on. it presents a very subtle dimensionality. inspite of its size, the weight on the wrist is very much felt and you just feel the "Rolexness".
i've been toying with the idea of selling it the past several years as i find myself wearing the white milgauss more often.
yet i am unable to part with it.

It is a summer watch ...very much I feel...
....though of course during the winter it can also be an uplifting watch to wear too! Its a quirky watch the Explorer 2... no matter whether it is vintage or modern. It has a weird personality in my view, but one that over time really grows on you.
It's a great watch, I use mine today........

funny you mention the word "silky"...
i have always been impressed about the whiteness of the dial. it's not exactly enamel but it has a certain sheen to it that's very nice. probably one of the reasons why it's still with me :-) best, echi
