A watch I had the pleasure to have between my hands for a few hours, before letting it go to his new owner. A 5513 from 1963, gilt, underline, pointed crown guards. A superb dial... ... Which is even nicer in the real, as the picture doesn't do justice to...

... Of 1966, presented to me by my parents. How much I miss that watch! I love the dial of this example! Gilt plus great patina! What a nice combination! I wish its new owner will enjoy it so much! Thanks for sharing Nicolas! Best cordial regards, Abel.
patina and sub = irresistible........

This pcs is full of character. Very even patina. And I will not disagree, what this watch is in real. I hope some day I find mine. But before that I need to save lots and lots of $$$$$$ Humbly. Ed
Ahh the famous underline typical of the 1963 models
By: Bill : February 22nd, 2012-23:33
I guess there are both under and overlines of the period so maybe this is the overUnderLine being it is under the Rolex Perpetual vs the UnderUnderline In the region of the Depth markings. The mystery of the underLine always a hiddem meaning with Rolex. A...
I gave up with the true meaning of the underline, Bill.
By: amanico : February 22nd, 2012-23:38
Rolex didn't take part in the discussion, and I doubt we'll ever know which is its true meaning. Anyway, that is a cherry on a beautiful cake, for sure! Best, and thanks, Bill! Nicolas
What a gorgeous example!

This is mine 5513 PCG underline white SWISS
By: mstanga : March 5th, 2012-07:16
The particularity of mine 5513 is that it has the so called "lower white SWISS" at 6 o clock, the one you showed up has the so called "high SWISS" (not white). Here in Italy, Rolex experts says that lower white swiss is rarer. It has a 6636 expanding brac...
Very nice, Marco!

But I will be less certain that the underline means that it is a sign of transition from radium to tritium... There is one thing which is certain, which is that in 1961 the reglementation required that tritium was used instead of radium. From which year y...

Yes, I would be interested! Can you copy and paste it, and give him the credit? Best, Nicolas
Can you tell us if the dial is still glowing
By: Bill : March 5th, 2012-18:03
Just curious - If it still glows it could be radium? I suppose Tritium could still glow but it would be super faint after all these years. The origina rule in the 60's was "swiss" to mark Radium until the started using the Tritium with the t>25. So many m...
Swiss = Radium = The rule.
By: amanico : March 5th, 2012-23:18
In theory, Bill, you're right, but at a certain moment, I mean at the end of the Fifties, things were more complicated. At this time, Rolex had some issues with the 6542 bezel, as you know. At this very same time, things were on to change, and, in 1961, t...
Can we assume...

If it still glow it is Radium or.... Is this not a good conclusion and only a geiger counter reading can confirm the fact. So much to learn so little time... facts... thanks Bill
