red submariner

Apr 29, 2011,03:13 AM

hi,have just read your great article on the red submariner.I have a red submariner (dateajust) purchaced new by myself on 10th may1976 so I can vouch for the information I'm passing on.Although purchaced in may 1976 the serial number of 3688xxx would I believe indicate a manufacture date of 1972 .The face refiring to your article is a Mark VI.The bracelet is stamped 580 at both ends and the 1st link at the 12 position is stamped 93150 (your notes show late 1970s,mine would indicate an earlier date). The gaurantee sheet is the same as the larger one in your article but to add to that it came in the origional box(mine is what is called a casket shape) and to fit in the box is folded in half and then folded over from each end .There is a gold and green 22mm disc stuck to the front with the crown symbal on a green background on top part,The middle section has 1680 in black print on a gold background and the lower part has ROLEX on a green background, under that is ATTESTATION DE CHRONOMETRE OFFICIEL in green, under that the crown symbal in gold, and under that ROLEX GENEVE - BIENNE in green.Just one more minor point to consider, when I purchaced mine I was asked for my home address as I undrstand It the original purchacer is registerd in Geneva,(don't know If this is universal or not).

Now a query,I now want to get it serviced (has hardly been off my wrist in 30+ years),still works perfectly I don't want the patina destroyed (the hands and figures are creamy and slightly blotchy, the dial is still pritty black but the bezel is quite faded, the pearl on the bezel was lost only a few weeks ago and needs a replacement.I still have the origional crown but it failed a couple of years ago and a tempory crown fitted by a good repairer (he repairs for a top shop) As i say I still have the origional but in pieces there is the crown, a short stem and a small spring. Are there any officiel rolex service centers (the rolex site dosn't appear to help at all) any suggestions for the UK please.

 By: unclesallie : April 24th, 2011-19:53
Dear Mark: Greetings: I have a question or two about a 'red' sub I am considering buying. First, the sub is a 2+ million series, with white or almost white dial markers, and closed, not open 6's on the dial. The case, hands, dial are seemingly correct, an...

End pieces were just swapped...

In response to your post, the end pieces were just swapped...or at least that's what it sounds like. The end pieces come apart from the main bracelet so you can just swap them back if you'd like.
