The Rolex Microstella Tool

The Microstella is Rolex system to adjust the balance wheel to make sure the watch

keep the COSC standard. To do that there is a special tool to adjust the screws with.

The old tool looks like this and it's oil filled to be a little more exact and stable.

At the backside there is graduation which means 1 second per day for the low type of head nut and 2 seconds for the high type of head nut for each line.

A closer look to the tool.

Here we have a balance wheel with the Microstella screws.

Here is how it works.

A few pics of the tool in action.

The instuctions from Rolex.

And some pics of the new/current Microstella tool.

So lets put up a watch at the timing machine. Not good -17 seconds a day.

So I pull off the bracelet.

With the Ref 2100 tool.

Take place in the case opener.

Off we go.

Let the fun begin

This is a little tricky.

22 minutes later we are close. A little low amplitude so maybe a service will made it perfect in the future.

You are one crazy Watch Santa! Congrats on achieving theoretical 0 seconds a day! And... When can I borrow your Lange?

Very cool I love seeing this type of work!

I gather when you make an adjustment you do it to the screw and the opposite screw? How do you decide which pair of screws?

I set the screws in the middle position

Then I try to get all four screws at the same height to avoid imbalance. There is some adjusting before you reach a good result.

Oh wow!

Not many dare to get into a Rolex, but that's what you have to do as they are easy to work with and difficult to break. Logical solutions that can be understood. I probably wouldn't have get into a Patek, I also have limits, even if it doesn't seem like i...

Impressive skills you got there

As I usually say to the Danes, the only thing that is better in Denmark than in Sweden is the view over the strait. πŸ˜‚

ROFL!

Not sure I understand the oil filled bit. But that's amazing!

If you look at the tool

so is there a triangle shaped metal part inside. That on is mounted with a axle at the center and turn around inside like a rotor on a automatic movement. Then you read the markers inside the tool when you adjust, one marker is one second. So the oil help...

Ah ha....

So the viscosity of the oil stabilizes the the rotor/pointer? I think I get it....

Jocke do you organize training course?
