WOW that is in amazing condition!

I have been following a number of posts here and else where recently regarding Middle Eastern presentation watches and they have really peaked my interest.  Your Oman Police 16800 is a real stand out.  The presentation box and accessories make it a package of considerable significance for sure.

What I find so hard to grasp about these watches is while they are incredibly cool, they really demonstrate a huge cultural divide between the ME and the "West".   In modern western democracies Law Enforcement Organizations and (to a lesser degree) the military are largely considered "blue collar" vocations and being a public service they are adverse to conspicuous displays of wealth.  The idea of a logo presentation watch of the value and prestige of a Rolex  would be completely unacceptable to the LEO by which I am employed.  I doubt my organization would event support members funding their own purchases of a logo watch (if one could be produced) as it would be seen as elitist.   This is so much to the detriment of the "esprit de corp" of the organization.

While of course I'm sure watches of this kind are not handed out to the rank and file of the ME services but rather to valued commanders and those in the inner circle of the rulers, I innately love the romantic idea that this kind of item could be aspired to by the "man in the field".

Regards,

Zac

Maybe not considered vintage, but here are some shots of my latest. It has been some time before I got it, but now I finally have everything complete. The watch is a 16800 with Oman police logo on the matte dial(8 mil serial). The watch came with Oman box...

MY GOD!!!

I once owned an AirKing issued by the Bahrein Oil Co . . .

. . . with the seal of the company on the dial, which was issued to an employee for five years of service. I wonder what they issue for ten years ;-) . . .

What a superb find!

Unfortunately there is not a real story behind the watch. Usually these watches are gifts for special services or exchange programs. I can only assume it is the same for this one. Again thanks for all the comments.

How cool is that!
