I own a nice Mark II red sub, overhauled years ago by Rolex Brussels, job nicely done , they replaced the hands by new ones, i understand why, but i asked to keep the patina hands.  A few weeks ago I asked my AD if it was possible to put the old patina hands back on the watch because i find them much better looking with the dial,

here's the response smile

what were they thinking that i'm gonna spend like 4.700 euro on a overhaul where i just asked them to put back the old hands ????

replacement of the case, back, hands, bracelet and additionally the dial !!!! yeah right a1

Hello P@trick, I have heard a similar story about Omega from my watchmaker. A watch was overhauled, old hands replaced by new ones - and they did not match with the patina of the dial. Or even worse: both hands and dial were replaced, largely reducing the...

My view....

.....if you instructed them to keep the original hands, then Rolex have an obligation to have done so. I presume that you have a written record instructing them to keep the original hands?

Just 2 questions

May I ask why you did have the hands remplaced in the first place some years ago? It sort of defies logic unless they were badly damaged? If you did get the back the original hands, why do you feel compelled to go to Rolex and ask them to put them back in...

Rolex' attitude, based on my recent experience with a triple six, could be summarised as follows: 'If we service the watch, we will decide what needs to be done in order to ensure that nothing will happen in the next two years; we will do this regardless ...

Not my experience...

It might well be a case by case appréciation by Rolex. My experience has Allahs been a good one. Servicing a movement, including possibly replacing part of it that need to be replaced because they are worn or replacing a gasket ought to have nothing to do...

Sorry for the mispelling

Horrible. Difficult with computers formatted in another language and when the text autocorrection is on by default.

Exactly !!

Rolex doesn't ask , they dictate what they want to do with the watch, the Original hands were changed but i asked them to deliver them back with the watch, they didn't want to do a service unless the hands were changed. So i got the patina hands back (in ...

I wouldn't let Rolex touch a vintage watch...

If you own a modern Rolex sending it to Rolex for a service or overhaul is just fine. The more rare and vintage the watch is the less I think you should send it to them. Rolex likes (or often) replaces dials, hands, and other parts that give the watch cha...
