It is quite possible than when you see a common trait

it may be as a result of changes in the manufacturing and application processes or the paint materials used............lots was going on at the time to remove previously acceptable materials and work practices from the workplace eg health and safety legislation starts to be adopted world wide, toxic materials in paints are being phased out, paint application processes are being controlled.....so many things that could evidence itself later in a common trait eg fading. Obviously, you may find that as these new processes materials were introduced, further refinements and changes may have occurred later as things are bedded down or new applications and materials came on line, so some of these properties may be quite short lived like the different aspects//profile of Tritium lume  application on dials we see.

I believe  eg the switch from submariner laquered gilt dials to matt dials is as a result of necessary changes in the work place, application processes and materials used, and possibly the timing judiciously to denote the reduction of high US tarriffs on Swiss watches in January 1967.

Rolex 1680,why some Sub bezels fade and others not .

Something i noticed on a lot of 1680 submariners ...

the corrosive things like white spirit, detergents, gasoline and sea water can be the reason of the fading. Also if the watch has a very strict proper care, it shouldn't age like this

This is the same for pâtina, a spider dial or too heavy patined dial is a sign of absolute carelessness from the previous owner. There are limits to patina and bezel fading, but for me, I can't see myself buying a watch with the slighest amount of patina,...

Can the bezel be replaced?

A faded bezel sells for a premium so it should easily buy a several service replacements.

However, pristine originals are very hard to find. The bezel on your watch matches the patina so it is not a distraction. Enjoy

Faded or not faded ...

I never thought of it that way how genuine fade matches the case patina , nice observation . The first owner of this example really took care of it although he claimed as far as he remembers the besel has faded a long time ago. Note how it maintained the ...
