Tudor Heritage BlackBay "blue"

May 15, 2014,04:18 AM

Heritage Black Bay "blue" - for some it is a novelty and for others it is just another version with blue bezel instead of a red one.

The red one was already introduced two years ago and it was nothing less than awarded with the “Revival” category prize by the jury of the 2013 Grand Prix d´Horlogerie de Genéve.

I much prefer the look of the latest one. It just looks closer to the original one (especially if we talk about Tudor divers for the French navy during the 2nd half of the 20th century) and blue fits much better to my wardrobe anyway smile

Anyone is into details?

“Snowflakes”, here we go.

“Tudor rose”, here we go.

“Big crown”, here we go – even when this one is a modern interpretation. As you can see it fits perfectly to the bezel and feels good when winding the watch.

OK, “Submariner” and “Shockresisting” are missing on the dial – if we compare it to the version from 1954. Instead we have “200m : 660ft Rotor Selfwinding” which is maybe not perfect, but still ok in my book.

The 41mm steel case shows polished and satin finished details, which are quite nice but not perfect compared to the early predecessors. Even after some heavy wearing and polishing the former ones feel still superior to me. It is not a big deal, but still I wanted to mention it. The unidirectional rotatable steel bezel with matt blue disc looks and feels good and especially the midnight blue I like a lot. The (self-winding) movement is the Tudor caliber 2824 and nothing is wrong with this as it is known for being very reliable. The power reserve is approximately 38h.

As you already know, the screw-down crown shows the engraved Tudor rose and blue inserts. There is a slightly domed sapphire crystal and the watch is waterproof up to 200m.

Two options – a steel bracelet or aged leather strap with folding clasp and safety catch. In any case you will get the additional fabric strap with buckle supplied with each watch. The latter is my favorite as it feels very nice on the wrist and especially the buckle is mentionable – even when it looks somehow subtle, it´s just perfect. Once more, there is more than one option available from the beginning and all of them are affordable. Especially today when you sometimes have to pay incredible prices for straps, bracelets and even tools for changing those, it is more than welcome like this. Bravo!

Hands-on and live impressions on the wrist :

Conclusion :

It is readable, wearable and feels solid. The price +/- 3k € (depending on the version chosen) is what I would call modest for what we are used to these days. But most important, it made me smile when I tried it on my wrist. Especially if my son would be a little bit older, this one would be very high on my list as a gift to him – first serious watch ... you know smile

I usually do not like these "revival" watches...

but this BlackBay Blue sure is beautiful in the photos. I think the original "snowflake" still is more desirable, but the Blue seems a good modern alternative.

"revival" - I agree there are good ones and bad ones ...

A great summary of these new vintage re-editions. I actually like this version of the heritage black bay (the blue/black) as opposed to the previous red. The only problem is, when I then see a M.N. it reminds me that I would actually prefer the original m...
