Well Gordon, as always, the presentation of new models, versions etc... is always bringing a change. Sometimes we like the watches right away and sometimes it requires a little more time. And it is not because it takes more time that it means it is not the best offer in the end.
When I saw the first pictures, I'm like everyone, there are things that attract me and others I don't feel as excited. However, I know after a few years of experience that some of the less exciting ones from first official pictures sometimes end at the first places (hence the importance of trying them before deciding and judging).
Here, my favorite and the one I tried to get from my Salon was the 5650G. And I say this as someone who is not usually very attracted by the Aquanaut design. The watch looks fantastic (gold material hue and blue colors) and is great in terms of development. Easy to keep as an everyday wear. I love that overall combination.
The second "ex-aequo" watches are, for me and not as a more objective opinion, the 5170P and the 5960G. The 5170P for it uniqueness and beauty (and I would love to wear a diamond watch in a a good way, I must say this is part of the fun here) and the 5960G for its nice look, complication, size, style as an everyday wear. The 5960G is not the most good looking one from the new collection but definitely the one I would see myself get the most pleasure wearing on a daily basis.
This last thing is something we notice for instance from Dr.Kol's posts and his 5960/1A or my 5712 and Speedmaster. They are watches that are not the most expensive and luxurious but that we finally give a lot of wrist time. We feel like we don't need more. The 5960G is more in that category for me.
Of course the 5131P is a marvel but I didn't put it first or second because I won't be able to get it (so this is a personal and subjective opinion I'm giving).
So, my last year's favorite was I think the 5204R close before the 5230 and 5930G. And this year the 5650G.
However, I would add that many of the watches unveiled have their appeal. For instance the 5396R bue dial I shot in the end wouldn't be watches I would get first but for someone who already has a few pieces, getting this one (with or without diamond markers) is a very interesting choice too. The combination looks fantastic in the metal, very tempting. And the 5320 will be very successful for many clients too.
Thanks for your kind comment about the report Gordon
Best, Mark
