I wouldn't wear an expensive watch in that environment

I saw your note and thought I would pass on a recent experience which is in a way related.

A couple of weeks ago I was on holiday in Cyprus and went to a water park.  I spent the day with the kids going on the water rides including the high slides .  After a couple of hours of doing this I was climbing out of the catch pool at the bottom of the high slide and heard a clunk.  I looked down to see my watch on the floor near my feet.  I thougth that the buckle (standard tang buckle on a waterproof leather strap) had come loose but on picking the watch up I could see that one of the spring bars had come out of watch, probably been pulled out by the impact of me hitting the water.  I didn't feel the watch slip off my wrist so had this happened in the water I would probably not have noticed for at least several minutes and would then not have know where I might have lost the watch.

As it turns out I never wear my expensive watches when on holiday, I always take a cheap watch that I wouldn't be too bothered about if I lost it or had it stolen.  In this case a Casio Waveceptor watch because it has an analogue display and alarm and it alters it's time setting automatically when changing time zones.  And obviously it's waterproof.

My Rolex (bracelet) and JLC (leather strap) watches both have straps fixed by spring bars so I assume it could have just as easily happened had I been wearing one of them.

Based on this experience I would never wear a watch doing any physical activity similar to the water park unless I wouldn't be too unhappy if I lost it.

We all know that most dive watches is mostly for desk diving - and not for real diving. Only a very small fraction of the people owning a gold rolex sub, a GP sub, a PP sub, etc. It could be that people interested in watches and people interest in diving ...

The Red Sea...The only sea where you can see sharks with golden teeth... Still ave the Ingot? What a watch! You know that I wasn't very fan of it, but with Time I learnt to appreciate it, indeed. Best, my friend. Nicolas
