There is a paradox with Rolex watches, which may explain that you can Wonder IF Purists will buy a Rolex.
The paradox lies in the fact that:
- You can't sum horology to Rolex. Those who do that don't know anything about watches, to say it roughly.Movements are sometimes innovative, the work on cases is great, the bracelets are top, but there is more exquisite, in terms of horology. A,d High End Horology and Rolex are not working together. This is not the purpose, for Rolex, by the way.
- BUT you cannot exclude Rolex from the world of watches. This is as stupid as to sum horology to Rolex.
Rolex did a lot for watches, even at a time when a lot of brands were giving up in front of the " Quartz Massacre ". They survived, and pretty well!
Therefore, try to put a modern Rolex on your wrist. It is the same feeling than when you close the door of a nice modern car. Dong... You immediately feel the quality.
With Vintages, you just have another trip, the trip of Beauty, Soul, innovation sometimes.
Innovation? Yes, yes... You have to keep in mind that Rolex is among the firsts to have launched:
A diving Watch, the iconic Submariner ( with Blancpain, though, but Rolex opted for the screw in crown )
A GMT, with the GMT Master, even if we have to keep in mind that Cottier did a lot for that purpose, with the World Times, and if we can consider that the GMT is inpsired from Cottier's work.
So, yes, I laugh when I read " I will never buy a Rolex "...
Snobism?
If so, why not asking if Purists will never buy a Patek?
Or any other so called prestigious brand?
Tsss.... An ode to Rolex watches, and a nice one, Ping.
Best,
Nicolas
